Bois Impérial is a highly popular, modern woody-aromatic niche fragrance created by the renowned master perfumer Quentin Bisch for the sustainable French fragrance house Essential Parfums. Launched in 2020, it has built a massive reputation in the fragrance community for its exceptional "beast mode" performance, versatility, and value for money.
Scent Profile & Notes
The fragrance is characterized by a unique combination of fresh spices, vibrant woods, and airy, molecular mineral facets:
  • Top Notes: Freshly crushed spicy Thai basil and Nepalese Timut pepper absolute, which gives a sparkling, citrusy grapefruit-like facet.
  • Heart Notes: Earthy Haitian vetiver oil, cedarwood tones via the Georgywood molecule, and an abstract, airy floral touch from the Petalia molecule.
  • Base Notes: The fragrance is anchored heavily by Akigalawood—a high-tech, upcycled biotechnology molecule derived from patchouli that smells like clean, polished cedar, pepper, and musk. This is paired with rich Indonesian patchouli and the long-lasting warmth of Ambrofix.
Key Performance Characteristics
  • The "Ganymede" Connection: Because it was formulated by Quentin Bisch, Bois Impérial is frequently compared to his multi-award-winning creation Ganymede (by Marc-Antoine Barrois). However, users note that Bois Impérial is much greener, woodier, less aggressively metallic, and significantly more affordable.
  • Longevity & Sillage: It is widely celebrated for its incredible longevity (8–12 hours) and massive projection. Its synthetic, molecular nature means it diffuses effortlessly in the air and can fill a room, though the wearer might occasionally experience nose blindness to it.
  • Versatility: It is entirely unisex, non-sweet, ultra-clean, and smells highly sophisticated. It works perfectly as a year-round signature scent for office wear, causal outings, or formal events.
